The roots of an ancient tree hold the soil next to a 15th century mosque in Delhi’s Lodi Gardens.

The dome in the background is the Sheesh Gumbad (“Glass Dome”) named for its glazed tiles. A family lies buried inside.

The buildings were built during the reign of the Afghan ruler Sikander Lodi.  The Lodi dynasty (1451-1526) ruled in North India at the end of the Delhi Sultanate.

Lodi Gardens is a peaceful park in the heart of Delhi.
